Fulfilling the wishes of Palliative Care Patients

Malcolm Cole has metastatic bowel cancer. Due to his love of fast cars he contacted Race4Life with his wish to have a ride in a Ferrari around a race track.

On Saturday November 26th we arranged for Malcolm to have some hot laps in a 458 Italia Ferrari at Hampton Downs Raceway. Malcolm did happen to mention that his wife, Ann, was celebrating her birthday on the 26th. It took a little creative thought as to how we might factor this into the day!

Mark Cole treated both Malcolm and Ann to hot laps around the track. Once the high octane rides were over the family celebrated Ann’s birthday in style. A delicious chocolate birthday cake was kindly supplied for Ann by Veronica, Wayne and Lisa at Cake Concepts, and Kerry from Orewa Beach Flowers, prepared a beautiful bouquet of flowers along with a spray for Ann to wear to celebrate her special day.

Malcolm shared his wish with his children and grandchildren at the track, and then took Ann to a special dinner which was gifted to them by Eddy at Volare Restaurant.  Renee at Co-op Taxis kindly organised their complimentary transport to and from the restaurant.

A great day was had by all the family and a big thank you goes out to all the generous people who gave their time and services to make Malcolm’s wish come true.
