Fulfilling the wishes of Palliative Care Patients

19 year old Hamish Taylor suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Both Hamish and his 17 year old brother, Austin, suffer from this disease that has a life expectancy around the mid -twenties. Hamish approached the Trust with a special wish to have a holiday away in Queenstown with his family.

With The Winter Queenstown Festival fast approaching it seemed an ideal time to do some investigating.

The Queenstown community’s response to Hamish’s request was stunning. On June 27 th the family will fly down to Queenstown and will be met at the airport by Queenstown Taxis who are supplying a mobility van during their stay. BP has gifted the family $400 worth of Petrol vouchers.

The Taylors will be staying at the Mercure Resort during their visit and will be dining at the Lonestar, Joe’s Garage, The Cow, Patagonia, and the Skyline Queenstown restaurant, over their four days in the South.  Real Journeys, will take them for a cruise on the lake aboard the Earnslaw and a trek to Walter Peak Station, after a scrumptious BBQ lunch. David from Nomad Safaris jumped at the chance to entertain the family on the 4WD Wakatipu Basin trip which has its share of adventure, scenery, Lord of the Rings and lots of other photo opportunities. They will return to Hamilton on June 30th.

A huge thank you to the community of Queenstown.
