Fulfilling the wishes of Palliative Care Patients

Garry Cochrane's family has great history in the Hokianga. So it was no surprise that his wish was to revisit this special area to say goodbye. On Friday Garry will travel to the Hokianga, with his son and grand daughter, thanks to the kindness of Karl MacKinnon from Lexus of Auckland. Volunteer, Jonnie Moore, will drive the family north, stopping at Mobil Takapuna to fill the car and collect some snacks for the trip. A huge thank you to Purvang Juriwala for this treat!!

On arrival in the Hokianga, they will check into the Omapere Copthorne, where Pip Lloyd, the manager, has kindly agreed to host the family over the weekend. Dinner that first evening will be at the Omaparadise Cafe, where owners, Taryn and Jo,  have not only gifted the meal , but are staying open especially for the family!!

The next morning after breakfast at the hotel, the crew will head over to Rawene, to visit Clendon House, a building once owned by Garry's ancestor, Jane Cochrane and her husband James Clendon.

Kirsty and Craig, owners of the Boatshed Cafe  have opened their doors to the family for Saturday lunch and are offering a variety of fresh fish including of course , flounder, which the area is renowned for.

After lunch they will head on back to Omapere in time for the Night Forest Tour, a complimentary gift from the Copthorne. This will give Garry an up close encounter with Tane Mahuta, New Zealand's largest living Kauri Tree.

On Sunday morning, once packed and breakfasted, the crew will make their way back to Auckland, stopping off at Mobil Dargiville. The owner Sandeep Kathiriya, has kindly agreed to fill the car with petrol and the passengers with snacks for the trip!!

Thank you one and all
