Fulfilling the wishes of Palliative Care Patients

Di Wong, is a delightful and courageous 64 year old woman who feels she has led a wonderful life so far.

Di was lucky enough to make two great friends at the age of 11. Amazingly, all three ladies are still firm friends today, almost 50 years later. As each friend was married, respective husbands complimented the friendships.  Once children came on the scene, the circle of love and friendship just grew, embellished  further ,with the addition of grandchildren.

The six friends remained very tight over the years with a special intention of a holiday together in the South Island, never far from their minds!.

Di has since been diagnosed with Metastatic Terminal Breast Cancer and so her life and hopes for the future have drastically changed. She had to retire early so her dream of visiting the South Island with her friends seemed out of reach.  That was until she contacted Race4Life Trust with her wish request.

On Thursday 20 th April, Di’s wish came true. Together with  Phillip her husband and their 4 friends, Di took off  to the South Island.

The Team were spoilt to scenic rail trips on the Northerner and the Tranz Alpine, fabulous hotel accommodation and delicious meals along the way. Plus all the fun, adventures and laughter precious to life long friends.

It was heart-warming to realise just how many businesses were involved throughout New Zealand, to make this adventure, possible for Diane, Phillip and their friends.
